Barnabas Staff & Board of Directors

Laurie Johnson is the Board of Directors Vice President, Volunteer Coordinator, and a lead Trauma Focused Equine Professional at Barnabas Horse Foundation in Myrtle Beach, SC.

The mother of two young men, her journey began in 2013, when she met Sue McKinney at a homeschooling event. She became a volunteer and quickly worked her way up the ranks to her current position.

Reeling from a traumatic divorce, Laurie experienced firsthand the love, connection, and healing that came from being with the herd. She is formerly certified by PATH International as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning and considers herself a Natural Lifemanship devotee. From the Fundamentals to the Immersions, there is hardly a training that she has missed. Most recently she was attending the Personal Intensive until it was cut short due to COVID19. This October, the Personal Intensive will resume, and her personal journey to a deeper understanding of connection will resume.

Laurie has been very instrumental at Barnabas, helping the program to grow over 1000% in seven years. She also developed a therapeutic riding program and an equine assisted learning program for special needs children and adults.

Embodying the Natural Lifemanship principles in her professional and personal life has enabled Laurie to have healthy connections in her family and community.
